Library Reading Program

So the boys participated in our library's summer reading program. We just turned in our reading log [I kept forgetting to turn it in for 3 weeks] and they each got a free book: Green Wilma [Cyrus's pick]
and Tuesday [Solomon's pick]. They each get a discounted ride bracelet for our almost year round amusement/carnival place that we'll be going to tomorrow! Then a surprise both kids got a free admission ticket for a Trail Blazers game [which if you don't follow sports- is a pro-basketball team based out of Portland and almost the worst team in the league for years] so we're planning on catching a game in November. Who should we see the Blazers play against: New Orleans, Sacremento, or Houston that will also be aired on TNT?

February Book Pick

The book pick for February is Virgin's Lover [http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?z=y&EAN=9780743269261&itm=2] and before you go "Whoa that sounds like a girl, romantic book- Eeeewwww" let me tell you that I had to start at the beginning of this series by Philippa Gregory to read The Other Boleyn Girl - which was a popular read last year in the Book Club and will be a movie out in Febuary starring Natalie Portman and Scarlet Johansson. The Other Boleyn Girl is about King Henry the VIII- who is husband of many wives if you remember your history and this book starts at the beginning with the first wife. It is such a good book! Even though I know the story- it was an incredible adventure to read how it did happen- the author did amazing research here.
I just finished the Other Boleyn Girl and thankfully my dear friend, Maragret, had loaned me the book, Virgin's Lover, and now I will read that. I have also gotten the rest of the books in this series! So anyone else recommend this series? Want to read it with me?

Book Club

I have joined a book club [a nerd thing to do says Dan] through my mommy group, MOMS Club. January's book was Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See. I was unable to make it to the meeting to discuss it- part of it was due to Monday's Snow Day. It was an interesting read about women in 19th century China- the parts about the feet binding was very interesting, the value of women in society- basically they need to bear sons, and the secret woman writing.... Check it out from the library or your second hand bookstore!

What to read?

I love to read and readily admit that I am addicted to words. Some people can't go without coffee in the morning or a soda or something that has sugar in the afternoon or can't drive without music on in their car, for me- I can't start, have a middle, nor a end without reading. Did you know that before I gave birth to each one of my boys- I read about 3 solid days before giving birth because I needed to stock up before I had no time due to around the clock nursing, diaper changing, etc that they needed [of course I was happy to care for them] but then I would get cranky if I go too long without reading something!!!

I wanted to pass on a great recommendation that my Grandma gave me: Janet Evanovich is the author and there is this series about Stephanie Plum who is a bounty hunter in New Jersey and there is a number in the title and it goes up to 13 currently. The series is funny, fun, and just an all around great read! Totally recommend it to anyone especially women!

So there is the picture of the paperback first book in the series so buy it or borrow it from the library, fix yourself a cup of tea and have yourself a great read! It is always nice to have a break from textbooks, non-fiction or the load of parenting books that I read.
